Oxford Phoenix Refugee Squad

Oxford Phoenix launched in 2021 and works with city-based refugees and asylum seekers to help them integrate into the community, make new friends and develop life skills applicable on and off the pitch.

The team trains weekly, participates in regular competitive fixtures in the Oxfordshire Senior League and was the brainchild of Refugee Resource, Oxford United in the Community, Oxfordshire FA and Asylum Welcome. In 2025 the management of the project has been continued by Asylum Welcome supported by Oxford United in the Community plus the Oxfordshire FA.

This is a crucial provision locally which uses football to connect individuals seeking refuge in Oxfordshire to meet likeminded people and integrate into the community.

Funded sessions take place at Greyfriars Oxford Catholic School while competitive matches in the Oxfordshire Senior League take place regularly on Saturdays.
