Oxford United in the Community to launch FREE Health & Wellbeing project for fans and local residents, supported by the Premier League.

Oxford United in the Community, the Official Charity of Oxford United Football Club, is delighted to be launching a new project for 2025, supported by the Premier League Fans Fund.

With pre-season fast approaching, the “Match Fit” Project will use the reach and appeal of Oxford United Football Club to support, engage and inspire adults, whether existing fans of the Club or local residents, to take steps towards improving their Health and Wellbeing.  As part of the project, Club expertise and fan-led insights will provide a suite of free content available free of charge via the Match Fit App – giving participants access to knowledge and insights from within the elite game and the Oxford United Men’s and Women’s First Teams as well as from local partner organisations.

The project will focus on 3 key themes, with a free 90 minute briefing for each to be hosted at the Oxford United Training Ground:

  1. Think Well – Monday 21st July 2025 at 6.00pm
  2. Fuel Well – Monday 4th August 2025 at 6.00pm
  3. Move Well – Monday 18th August 2025 at 6.00pm

Each workshop will be open to up to 60 fans, and feature panels including Oxford United staff, sharing how the Club’s players make small incremental changes to improve their performance, and how this can be applied to fans own aspirations to improve their Health & Wellbeing.

Underpinned by local partners Oxfordshire County Council, Active Oxfordshire and Beezee by Maximus, the project is open to all adults aged over 18 as at 1st July 2025, whether fans of the Club or a resident of Oxfordshire.

Whether you would like to improve your own Health & Wellbeing, support a family member, or just learn more about the subjects within an elite environment you can sign up for FREE access to any of the briefings by registering HERE.

Further details of how anybody can download and access the information via the Ownminder App will follow the first briefing on 21st July.

Oxford United in the Community CEO, Matt Everett, said: “Receiving this funding from the Premier League Charitable Fund has allowed us to shape the Match Fit project over recent months.

“As the official charity of Oxford United Football Club, our team already do so much to inspire local communities using the power of the Club badge.

“With this project, we can respond to a key local need to improve people’s physical and mental health and wellbeing, and offer a benefit to every fan of the Club or local resident that needs it – bringing everybody closer to the Club. We will work closely with existing local providers of advice and services whilst adding a layer of content specific to Oxford United Football Club to hopefully inspire and help people to make positive changes to their health and wellbeing, however small they may be.

“It will allow us to build on the existing great projects that the Club offers such as the Can We Talk campaign and launch of Utd Running Dept and we can’t wait to start working with fans and residents to further shape the project in the coming months.”

The funding will also support additional workshops specifically designed to meet the needs of people within existing Oxford United in the Community programmes, such as the Manor Club and Inclusion Squad.

The Premier League Fans Fund provides grants to support football clubs at all levels of the game to strengthen connections between them, their fans, and local communities.

The fund supports a range of fan-focused and fan-led projects, helping to foster a sense of belonging through meaningful engagement. Funding is flexible to empower professional football clubs, and their community organisations, to develop fan-focused and fan-led projects that respond directly to the needs of their local community.

Open to 120 professional football club community organisations in the Premier League, English Football League, National League, Women’s Super League and Women’s Championship, the Premier League Fans Fund builds on the Premier League and clubs’ commitment to ensuring long-term engagement with supporters.

“Through the Premier League Fans Fund we are investing in projects that will enhance connections between clubs and fans, whilst also delivering even more community impact.

“By supporting clubs across England and Wales, from both the men’s and women’s game, to develop projects that respond directly to the needs of their fans, we can help to ensure that football offers a fantastic experience for everyone.”
