Young Oxford United Fan Surprised with Team Photo

Oxford United in the Community and the Club came together to surprise 11-year-old Bertie with a mascot package and the chance to be in the official team photo.
Bertie was recently diagnosed with a rare form of brain tumour and will undergo a life-changing operation on Monday.
Last weekend, Oxford United in the Community invited Bertie to be a mascot for the U’s home match against Leicester City, where he met his favourite players and walked out with the team ahead of the match.
Bertie’s mother, Cara, said: “We had a great day. It was really nice to take his mind off of what is going on and he really enjoyed the whole experience.”
On Tuesday, the Club invited Bertie to the city centre where he was surprised with the news that he would be in the official team photo for the 2025/26 season.
It was part of the Club’s initiative to recognise the team behind the team, with Bertie invited alongside lifelong fans, selfless volunteers, and members of our inclusion programmes.
Cara said: “It was so lovely for the players to come and speak to Bertie and they made him feel really special.
“He’s been in a bubble and has really enjoyed it. We can’t thank Oxford United enough for this.”
Bertie’s experience was directly funded by your donations to Oxford United in the Community.
